What Is Asclera?

Asclera works by irritating the inner lining of the targeted veins, leading to inflammation and sclerosis. This process effectively seals the veins shut, and the body eventually resorbs the damaged vessel. Superficial reticular and spider veins appear when blood pools in these veins and do not have a physiologically important function.

Benefits of Asclera for Sclerotherapy

Asclera offers several benefits to those who are looking for a safe and effective treatment for leg veins:

Asclera is administered through small injections directly into the targeted veins, making it a relatively painless procedure with minimal downtime. This makes it a great option for those who want to avoid more invasive treatments such as surgery or laser therapy.

Asclera has been clinically proven to be highly effective in treating small varicose veins and reticular veins. If used correctly, it can significantly reduce visible leg veins and improve overall blood flow in the legs.

Asclera does not require anesthesia, making it a more comfortable experience for patients and eliminating the risk of potential side effects associated with anesthetic agents.

Unlike other treatments for venous insufficiency, Asclera allows patients to resume their normal activities immediately after treatment. There is no need for bed rest or taking time off from work, making it an ideal option for those with busy schedules.

How Does Asclera Work to Fade Visible Leg Veins?

Asclera works by irritating the inner lining of the targeted veins, leading to inflammation and sclerosis. This process effectively seals the veins shut, and the body eventually resorbs the damaged vessel. Superficial reticular and spider veins appear when blood pools in these veins and do not have a physiologically important function.

Safety and Side Effects of Asclera for Sclerotherapy

While Asclera is generally well-tolerated, potential side effects can include:

  • Temporary redness or swelling at the injection site
  • Minor bruising
  • Itching or mild discomfort in the treated area

Serious complications are rare but can include allergic reactions or blood clots.

FAQs About Sclerotherapy for Minimizing Exposed Leg Veins with DermWellesley

Sclerotherapy is a procedure that treats thin spider veins on the legs (approximately 1mm in diameter).

A small amount of a chemical solution is injected directly into the spider vein using a fine needle. The solution irritates the vessel and will cause it to seal shut. The treated vein then fades in a few weeks. Multiple veins may be injected during one treatment session, and multiple sessions may be needed to achieve the desired outcome.

After treatment, you will have bandages to provide compression and keep the blood out of injected sites. You will also need to bring medical-grade thigh-high or pantyhose-style compression stockings with you on the day of treatment. You will need to wear compression stockings daily for 1 week after treatment. You can expect to resume normal activities after treatment, but avoid strenuous physical activity for 3 days and prolonged standing in one position. Avoid direct sun exposure to the treated areas for 2 weeks. Walking is encouraged to avoid the formation of blood clots.

Sclerotherapy is typically used to treat spider veins, which are smaller and closer to the skin’s surface. Varicose veins, on the other hand, are larger and deeper and may require a different treatment approach. Our dermatologist will evaluate your varicose veins and determine if sclerotherapy is appropriate for you. If not, they may recommend alternative treatments such as laser therapy or surgical procedures.

If you notice that the veins in your legs have become darker and more visible, it could be a sign of underlying vein disease. This can occur due to several reasons, such as genetics, pregnancy, hormonal changes, or standing or sitting for long periods. If you are experiencing any discomfort or changes in your appearance, it is important to have your veins evaluated by a dermatologist.
